Fresh loaves of bread from Stella's Bakery

We upper midwesterners don't get to revel much in National Garden Month, and with this week's cooler weather coming in, it's no secret as to why.

Still, those of us inclined to growing our own get what we can out of the earliest of early gardening season.

We're often out cleaning up our growing areas, planting early potatoes and peas, spreading compost and planning what the next few months will look like. At this time of year we're as likely to be looking over seeds starting indoors as the ones outside.

Fortunately the return of the farmers' market season comes just in time to get into the gardening mood.

We can thank our nursery growers for pushing us along and making our gardens better. We're fortunate enough to peruse an aromatic selection of herbs from Harvest Moon Herbs or vigorous broccoli starts from West Star Organics. Flower baskets from de Block Nursery give those with limited space a colorful chance to tend their own.

Crunch into some sweet and delicious JenEhr Family Farm carrots!

Celebrating the return of market season was a breeze this past Saturday as we let the sunshine brighten our faces with a hearty dose of spring warmth.

It was a perfect day to load up on spring flowers from de Block Nursery, bags of tasty curds from Murphy Farms and fresh grown mushrooms from Herb n' Oyster.

Beyond our own shopping efforts, purchasing from small ma...

It's finally here! Oh and how we have waited. It's been a long winter with no shortage of concerns in the world. Finally, we can set aside our cares and revel in the blissful experience that is the weekly market.

Set aside a little extra time for that first market visit. Time enough to peruse the new site, time to catch up with your neighbors and hear what new products are coming this year from your favorite vendors. Don't forget to save a little time to stop by the Information Tent for free recipes, with new additions every week, and make sure to enter our weekly drawing to win a $5 gift certificate to the market!

We're excited to welcome everyone to our new location, behind UW Health's Digestive Health Center (750 University Row) on the corner of University Avenue and University Row. You'll be able to get to the market from either direction off of University Avenue or from either direction off of Whitney Way.

While we no longer have one enormous lot to fit all our customer...
