A Bounty and Then Some

Fresh peaches are here from Door County Fruit Market

A Bounty and Then Some

It's totes and wagons time at the market and a little extra time in the gym wouldn't hurt when it comes to hauling all the goodness home.

Giant watermelons from Flyte Family Farms and cantaloupes from Pleasant Springs Orchard add heft to any bag, but they're just the beginning of your shopping trip.

Among many great organic produce offerings, field ripened tomatoes from Happy Valley Farm (pictured) are not to be missed, delicious in salads or enjoyed in a classic southern tomato sandwich, on top of tasty Stella's Bakery Rustic French bread.

Alongside your market staples, special finds are an indulgent treat, like Landmark Creamery's Buttermilk Mascarpone cheese or hand-stretched mozzarella (pictured) from Dreamfarm, a great pairing with the fresh tomatoes in a caprese salad.

Another special find to look out for this weekend is fresh, never frozen guinea fowl from Bryant Family Farms. If you're curious how to prepare these wonderful birds, then check out the new "Dane County Farmers' Market Cookbook: Local Foods, Global Flavors", which features a yummy recipe from Bryant Family Farms featuring their guinea fowl. Stop by the Info Tent during the market to purchase a copy of the cookbook.

For those in love with spicy full flavors, give this tasty Thai green curry recipe a try, and stop by Live Jewelry Farm to pick up some ripe Thai eggplants (pictured).

Moving through the market, don't miss out on fresh sweet corn, newly arriving hot peppers, lovely floral bouquets, and if there's any room left, a bag of Murphy Farms' cheese curds or beef sticks.

It's a workout trekking to market this time of year, but if you put in the work now, by pumpkin and winter squash season, you'll have no trouble hauling load after load.

See you at the market!
