August Awaits
On the doorstep of August and the last full month of summer, we pause to recognize the grief hanging over our city this past week. The tragic loss of life is never easy, regardless of reason and we extend our condolences to all affected.
The market is not just a food hub, but a gathering space for our community. Through good times and bad, we appreciate the opportunity to offer space for friends, neighbors, farmers and strangers to come together in recognition of the importance of these spaces.
We must carry on, just as the crops in the field keep growing, but we'll always be thankful to be a space for more than just our shopping lists.
With the arrival of August, we have much to look forward to like new crops such as dragon tongue beans, romanesque broccoli and even apples in just a few short weeks.
Everbearing strawberries (pictured) from Live Jewelry Farm are back, as well as the first cantaloupe and watermelons of the season.
Field tomatoes are beginning to fill tables and it won't be long before flats of paste tomatoes are ready to help you fulfill all your salsa and sauce needs.
School will return in just a month and for many that means it's time to pack in as much summer fun as possible, with trips to the lake, the cabin and the campground in the forecast.
The market is a wonderful place to load up on snacks, be they cheese curds, fresh blueberries, crunchy carrots or meat for the grill. Don't let summer slip by without trying a great burger atop Stella's Bakery mini Hot & Spicy Cheese bread (pictured).
We look forward to spending this month with you at market, one we hope can bring us together to celebrate the good things we can create together. Tasty too.
As a reminder, we ask shoppers and vendors alike to please use the new gravel paths going forward and to let the old foot paths heal over and regrow with their native plantings.
