Grinning from Ear to Ear

We kicked off July with the earliest sweet corn ever, and while we're well into the market season, something about those first few ears of corn make you say "oh yeah, it's market time."

Another great sign of the bounty of July, was the first field grown tomatoes from County Line Plants & Produce (pictured), perfect for salads, salsas and the classic tomato sandwich.

Elsewhere we're finding zucchini and yellow squash, fresh potatoes, green beans, eggplant and so much more. One special find this past weekend was squash blossoms from Shoua Lee Vang (pictured).

Of course the staples of the season are always out there to be enjoyed, like farm fresh eggs and cottage cheese from Murphy Farms. Another classic that draws a line each week is the hot & spicy cheese bread from Stella's Bakery (pictured).

This weekend, we're happy to announce the return of two more longtime WCM vendors, Don's Produce with fresh tomatoes and cucumbers and JenEhr Family Farm with their certified organic blueberries.

With more coming in each week, it's time to grab that 2nd, 3rd, or 4th market tote to haul all those goodies. Now that brings a smile to any face.

See you at the market!

Local families and farmers facing budget cuts need our support - Buy Out The Market this Saturday!

Healthy Food For All, the Westside Community Market and the MSCR-Meadowood Community Center Pantry are asking neighbors to turn out this Saturday, June 12th and Buy Out The Market! Building on HFFA's popular Buy One For A Neighbor program, Buy Out The Market is a challenge to the community to see if we can clean out the market farmers and donate all that beautiful local produce to struggling families.

While the need is growing daily, pandemic era funding for food support has ended and deep cuts are being made to critical programs like SNAP. Just when we need our local farmers to grow and expand, local produce purchasing and farm to school programs have been slashed, cutting a critical revenue stream that helps sustain them.

Together as a community, we can help our families and our farmers thrive and prosper by simply shopping at the Market. Will you be part of this novel community solution to these critical challenges? Come help Buy Out The Market Saturday!
