June Bug

The heat is holding on as we push towards the end of June. Thankfully the rewards of the season are holding on too.
Sugar snap peas are out in abundance, perfect for salads, stir fries, fresh eating and delicious refrigerator pickled snap peas. Last Saturday we even lucked out with the first shell peas of the season (pictured) from Ka Vang Thao.
Heads of new cauliflower are coming in, and so too broccoli, like these beautiful heads of green and purple broccoli from Perez Produce. Perez Produce also brought in their first new potatoes of the season this past week.

Strawberries are still out in force, with whole flats available from Flyte Family Farms. In the coming weeks we'll be keeping our eyes out for early raspberries and soon enough, blueberries too.
From blue to bleu, stop by Schroeder's Kase for their double and triple creme bleu cheese (pictured).
Now is the time to enjoy the many fresh lettuces of the early summer, from yummy mixed greens to a variety of head lettuces.

We want to thank everyone who donated to the Buy Out the Market day last weekend, hosted by Healthy Food for All Dane County. They will be out each week gathering extra food for their Buy One for Your Neighbor program. All donations are given over to the Meadowood Neighborhood Center Food Pantry.
As we send off June this weekend, we're happy to announce the return of our friends, the Master Gardeners. They will be out bi-monthly to answer your gardening questions and provide free advice about keeping your garden in tip-top share.
Now if only the heat would take a break...
See you at the market!
