Roasted Root
Nothing beats a fall rain day when it comes to romanticizing the comforts of home. The rain prods us towards thoughts of warm blankets, a good book and something delicious cooking in the oven.
Good thing the market provides for such a fall occasion with all the necessary ingredients.
Perhaps a bowl of Ginger Turmeric Squash Soup will serve to shake the rain off, with fresh squash from Blue Moon Community Farm (pictured) and fresh ginger from Sai's Garden.
We may look at these rainy cool days as a little ugly, but when you're curled up inside, there's something to appreciate there. The same can be said of the celeriac root, it may not be the prettiest but its humble nature has much to offer.
Swing over to the Emerald Meadows Family Farm booth for their organically-grown celeriac (pictured), perfect for making into this delicious Creamy Celeriac Mash.
The October market season offers a great variety of other fall produce favorites too, perfect for a tray of roasted root vegetables. Fresh beets, carrots and turnips can be found in abundance, alongside a growing variety of fresh potatoes like these pictured from Happy Valley Farm.
Fall produce can certainly steal the show, but for many the answer to a wet cool day is a slow cooked roast, and Highland Spring Farm is there to help with a great selection of roasts from their Scottish Highland cattle.
The forecast for this weekend's market favors more time outside rather than hidden away from the rain. We'll be grateful for that, as well as the return of Wetherby Cranberry Company too.
Rain or shine, when it comes to a good fall market day all there's to be said is send me on my way.
See you at market!
