Session III Begins
The last weekend before school begins and just a few fleeting days of August remain for us to enjoy.
While we hope that summer feeling holds, we at market officially enter our fall session this Saturday and the signs are already popping up.
Ten Eyck Orchard returned this past weekend with their early apples (pictured). Sadly frosts this April hurt a lot of the early apple crop for our growers, meaning a later start this season than usual.
Early varieties of winter squash are now to be enjoyed, like spaghetti, acorn and small butternuts. Soup season weather is still a ways off, but enjoy the squash with this delicious butternut red curry recipe. Enjoy it with shallots from Shoua Lee Vang and fresh ginger from Live Jewelry Farm (pictured).
New this weekend, we hope you'll help us welcome Thornton Creamery with their small batch, handcrafted ice cream, offered in a variety of rotating flavors. Take home a pint to enjoy, and remember Dreamfarm's decadent caramel Dreamsauce goes great atop fresh ice cream.
As summer winds down, there are still so many ways to enjoy those seasonal flavors. Mr. Tea's Kombucherie (pictured) does a great job of capturing those fresh tastes in a bottle with their ever changing varieties of kombucha to quench your thirst.
Look for seasonal baked good flavors coming in to market too, from vendors like Judith & Jane's Bakehouse and Honey Bee Bakery.
It may be a long time before sweaters and gloves become market fashion, but the transition to the fall session has begun and we're here for all of it.
As a reminder, we ask shoppers and vendors alike to please use the new gravel paths going forward and to let the old foot paths heal over and regrow with their native plantings.
