Pie-Eyed

Lisianthus Bouquets from Country Bloomer's Greenhouse

Pie-Eyed

The mid-market season is full of those wide-eyed expressions. The faces are taking in far more beauty, wonder and joy than can be comprehended in the moment.

It's the look when one see's the first lunchbox peppers of the season from Emerald Meadows Family Farm (pictured), glistening in bold red & orange.

They only grow wider upon the sight of summer squash, eggplant & zucchini bursting out the top of wicker baskets at the Blue Moon Community Farm booth or tables full of blueberry & raspberry pints from Flyte Family Farms.

Not only the eyes are victim, as the ears take in the sounds of our youngest entertainers, the Starr Grass Band, picking, stepping and singing away to the joyous passersby.

While the expression comes from the size of wonder-enlarged eyes, we also can't help but think some of those pie-eyed are in a state of future dessert planning with the first pie cherries of the season in from Pleasant Springs Orchard (pictured).

Not only fresh produce, but flowers too elicit the expressionless wonder when we catch sight of bouquets of lisianthus flowers from Country Bloomer's Greenhouse or those idyllic bunches of sunflowers from Lor Farm.

With 16 more weeks of the market season to enjoy, don't expect to be underwhelmed anytime soon. If this past week was one for the books, just wait until sweet cherries and tables full of sweet corn catch your gaze. Oh my, oh my.

See you at market!
