Beautiful purple cauliflower and cabbage from Alsum Sweet Corn
Labor Day Weekend

Oh summer, how have you blown by us so quickly?
Give us more than three days to celebrate your end, before the kids return to school and the world becomes full of PSLs and fall decor.
Leave us time to enjoy the beautiful flowers of summer, like these pictured lisianthus from Country Bloomers Greenhouse.
Time enough for one more run down the slip-n-slide, late night stargazing with a chance of fireflies and sweaty summer hugs with sticky faces from melting popsicles.

Alas, we can't slow you down. For even at the market we've seen the signs coming. It's the first winter squash from Yang Family Produce and freshly dug fingerling potatoes from Emerald Meadows Family Farm (pictured) that speak of autumn's near arrival.
We can rally the troops, call in all reinforcements, but I fear the season is soon lost. At least we can go down together in this defeat.
Boil a Pecatonica Valley Farm brat in salute, raise a glass of Ten Eyck Orchard cider and remember the heat, humidity and smoke of the 2025 summer.
Let Highland Spring Farm (pictured) soothe you with their Scottish Highland beef, be it burger or steak. Outdoor grilling season is also not long for the year.

As the the grill is hot, add one more Bryant Family Farms' chicken to the menu, and while you're there ask about their bumper crop of pocket plums, a summer treat that fades just as quickly as the season.
We may go down in this fight, but we fought bravely through that last slice of watermelon, ran into the fray of that second scoop of back porch ice cream and nobly downed that final hot dog left from the grill.
Fear not faithful warriors of the market. Onto a new day do we fight. The fallen berries of summer will not be forgotten. We have pumpkins, apples, squash, roots and more to face come autumn. Let us prevail in deliciousness.
See you at the market!
