September Season

September Season
Overloaded. That's the term for market, and perhaps life, this time of year. Kids are back in school, a few precious weeks of summer weather remain and there are simply too many good things to take in before we move into fall.
Crates of Happy Valley Farm tomatoes, Perez Produce tomatillos and Natalie's Garden & Greenhouse peppers all cry out to be made into roasted salsa, perfect to top Tortillas Los Angeles sopes (pictured).
Fruit inundates the market shoppers, with melons, apples, pears, grapes, aronia & elderberries and more to pick from each week.
When the bounty from the field feels overwhelming, then comes the rare late summer finds, like wild chicken of the woods mushrooms from Bonde Bee (pictured), great sautéed with parsley.
Seasonal specialties must fit beside weekly shopping needs like fresh eggs from Dreamfarm, loaves of Pepitas Polenta bread from Madison Sourdough and a yummy bottle of Open Kettle Farms maple syrup.
Still, we must accommodate for weekly treasures, like delicious Rebel Miel from Landmark Creamery (pictured). This weekend, save a little extra room for fresh, never frozen, pastured turkey coming in from Bryant Family Farms.
We'll take in the warm days and abundance as much as we can. While the season still has ten markets to go, the colder days will come soon enough and with them the countdown to last market in early November.
Sweat it out, gobble it up and enjoy these waning weeks of summer.
See you at the market!
